Beneath the Streets - Third Avenue - Havre, Montana

The Havre Beneath the Streets tour is one of the more notable tours of the Hi-Line City.  Surprisingly I went 23 years without making this adventure in my own hometown, but I was able to finally do it - as a true tourist nonetheless!  I was fortunate enough to get a private tour but it was unfortunate for my tour guide to get the bombarbment of questions that I don't think she expected to come from such a "young'n"!  To kick off this adventure, stop by the museum up on Third Avenue (which is free to tour around) and schedule a tour!

These pictures are from the parts which are near what is Third Avenue.  In the early days of thesity of Havre, fire ravaged the early structures, leaving the merchants to create this underground mall.  After a few years, the 'mall' became more of a small, thriving city.  Naturally, the display of military memrobilia caught my attention!  Always find displays like this interesting - to see all that I know and don't know about our nation's military insignia.  After my tenure, I might see if the museum would like to add a few pieces of my patches to their collection.  In the middle is an altar for what was a funeral parlor.  That business is still in operation just a few blocks away from the museum under the same families - Holland and Bonine.  Pictured on the right is one of many opium dens that were scattered throughout the old frontier town of Havre.  The pipes as well as the silk gown that they are resting on came from China with immigrants seeking the American Dream.  Many of the Asian immigrants were believed to come with the building of the rail lines across the new State of Montana as the westward rush was in full swing.
